What would happen to you if you went to a restaurant with a group of mates, had your food, got very drunk and then trashed the place? You'd most likely get arrested, maybe a few months in prison (although, judging on recent events, a few years). That's how it should be. For The Bullingdon Club however, this is not the case, they just hand over some cash to the owner, and it's not spoken about again. For those who don't know, it is an exclusive members club made up of ex public school boys at Oxford University, only ones whose parents are rich enough to pay for their excessive drinking habits, and riotous acts. And the really scary thing? Three of the UK's most powerful people were members during their time at Oxford. David Cameron, George Osborne and Boris Johnson.
Our Prime Minister was a member. Our Prime Minister was part of a club that had a reputation for getting drunk and trashed places.
Speaking to Andrew Marr in 2009 Cameron said "We do things when we are young that we deeply regret." Presumably, like the rioters in London. I'm sure when they grow up they will realise they were stupid for getting involved. But unlike the Bullingdon Club Members, they will be punished for their behaviour, not simply handing over money to keep people quiet, just because they happen to have grown up in a family with lots to spare.
All this got me thinking. Do you know any of the restaurants that the Bullingdon Club have visited at all? Particularly between 1985 and 1988? If you do, I'd love to hear from you, and if you don't, please spread that word!
